Ranah Locke (aka The Storyteller) is a highly proficient and extremely gifted 31-year-old, immortal profiler assigned to track Veronica Kydd. She is gifted with cerebral abilities that make it virtually impossible for most to evade her or resist her will for long. She has been groomed to use her gifts by The IEA and assigned to senior Agent Vincent Kane, her guide and mentor.
Ranah is protective and possessive of things and people she cares about. She’s highly intelligent, but emotionally volatile because of her cerebral gifts. She needs constant management with psychological and emotional stimuli. She is aware of her weaknesses and wisely submits to the safeguards placed in her life by the IEA. One of those safeguards is agent Vincent Kane who periodically administers a drug cocktail to her at his discretion. The cocktail is designed to help her control the extreme mental stimuli her mind constantly wrestles with.
Vincent Kane (55) is a mortal, Senior IEA Agent with 26 years of international field experience, including a high success rate of tracking and bringing immortal criminals to justice. He is a wise, highly intelligent agent with exceptional self-control and focus. While preparing for a comfortable retirement in less than a year, the IEA makes him a private contract offer that pays four times more than his retirement plan.
The contract requires him to only work in a management capacity in the field, and only on special cases. Not able to refuse the opportunity, he accepts with his first assignment being the assembly of an elite task force to track and stop Veronica Kydd. Along with the other conditions of his contract, he is required to personally manage Ranah Locke as the principal asset of the task force. Kane naturally and quickly gains a remarkable understanding of Ranah and her cerebral gifts. They quickly grow found of each other as he becomes her psychological anchor, trusted like a father figure.
